Pyramidenkogel

Starting off in Carinthia I’d like to give you some little insights into my home area. Today’s topic, in particular, is the so called “Pyramidenkogel” which is a wooden/steel viewing platform located next to the “Wörther See”. The lake, as well as the platform, are heavily oriented towards tourism like the whole province of Carinthia.

There are two options to get to the top level: Stairs and an elevator. Since I am from this region and I like to hike and climb mountains and such I obviously took the stairs. The stunning view from the top level is more rewarding when you walk up to the top, but that’s just my personal preference. DSC00028.JPG

As a side note, i’d like to mention that little signs show you the level you’re on as well a s the steps you’ve made whilst getting up there. Also don’t wonder the jackets – it was mid of April. Top tip: if you visit in summer dress up in shorts, T-shirt and wear sunscreen.

At the top the surrounding view is stunning. DSC00020.JPGThe “Wörther See”, the biggest lake in the province, 16,5km in length and a width of 1,7km. Loads of private and public beaches surround the lake, with water so clear you can drink it even I personally would not recommend it. Bottom line: If you take a few good zips whilst training swimming, windsurfing water skiing or whatever floats your boat – no worries.

The view south:

Woods, Farms the Keutschar lake, and the Alps.

In the foreground, you can spot a farm with “Buschenschank” written on the roof. These are special places where you can get only local food and drinks. There is a regulation in place so these Taverns are only allowed to sell food and drinks which they produce themselves. So no Cola and artificial stuff but homemade bacon, sausages, cheese, bread, and cider.

A so called “Brettljause” a little bit of everything.

I just realize I’m getting off topic here, but guys we’re talking food.

To the east there is Klagenfurt, the biggest city in the province.DSC00045.JPG

Almost tiny, compared to other cities but it reached the 100.000 citizen mark in 2016.

Standing up there will probably make your feet shaky at first since the human body is not used to this height and your brain will tell you immediately to watch out. Take some time up there and sit down at one of the benches until your brain calms down and you can enjoy the stunning landscape views and the slight breeze surrounding you.

When you are finished, you may be able to slide down the tower, depending on which kind of ticket you bought at the start. I am not a huge fan of closed slides and so I’ll have t admit that I never tried the slide. I took the elevator downstairs since there is no reward getting down. I can only recommend the experience when there is good weather, but then it is quite amazing. Ah, and don’t forget to get some local food at a Buschenschänke of your choice.
