The yellow hell-machine aka Willie

I drove across Austria to check out a transporter – a VW LT 35 with a high roof. It was, in fact, a vehicle of the Austrian Post with stunningly 77.000 Km on it. I just had to have it, of course, there was much work to do since it was not driven on a regular basis, but I kinda liked it.

Well, not particularly beautiful but I am perfectly fine with “looks like nothing of worth inside” I took it home to start working on the car. Before starting anything serious, I wanted to clean it to have a good look at it and maybe hidden issues… well at least that was the plan. I started scrubbing it but to no effect. I thought ok, it was a long time, let’s take something stronger. Motorcycle-cleaner. Nothing. Well, I worked my way up to almost pure nitro, but the dirt was burned in so hard, I had no chance of getting rid of it the normal way. At least sandpaper did the trick, but scrubbing of a whole transporter by hand made me wish I bought a smart.

At least the result was stunning since there was actual yellow underneath the dirt. That’s when it was named the yellow hell-machine or Willie. The first name because the car had old tires on it and was actually not really safe to drive and the second one because it is yellow after all and Willie was a clumsy bee in one of my favorite cartoons when I was a small child.
